PRODUCT CARE

Dear Visitor,

Here at Button Stance we are committed not just to make a perfect purchasing experience for our customers but, more importantly, a lasting one.

Buying bespoke is a significant investment and a garment (particularly, a suit) may last for many years as it’s been made with this intention, but it needs a proper protection and care to last that long.

Worn carefully, the most care your suit should need is an occasional soft clothes brush, particularly around the wrist-cuffs and collar. We have some recommendations for you:

#1: At home

After wearing a suit for a full day, or in the event of some rain, leave it to air overnight before putting away into a wardrobe, particularly if it’s wool.  It is advisable to keep it in a suit bag to protect from dust.  Always keep your suit on a wide hanger that protects the shoulders, with a trouser-bar.  If necessary, use cedar-wood to protect from moths.

#2: In a car

Do not be tempted to drive in your jacket.  Seat-belts crush the shoulder and waist; so, ideally, keep it on a hanger behind your seat.

#3: Travel

Your jacket has a hang-up loop in the neck but please try to minimise its use as it is not intended for permanent, only short-term use.  On a short-haul flight the seat in front normally has a peg, be careful not to spill the coffee. In the overhead bins, you take your chances along with everyone else’s pushing and shoving.

#4: Pockets

Although your suit jacket has pockets, please limit their use to lightweight and thin items such as business cards.  Do not overload them, it will ruin the silhouette of the suit.

#5: Pressing

Only press your suit at home if confident you know what to do to avoid putting a shine or crease where it shouldn’t be.  If in doubt, please get in touch with us for advice.

#6: Dry Cleaning

Do not, under any circumstances, take your suit to a dry cleaner.  We will be very upset if we find you have done this without involving us (provided it’s a suit we’ve made for you).  If you think a dry clean is required, it probably isn’t and a sponge & press will be all it needs, which we will do.  If dry-cleaning is unavoidable, please return the suit to us and for a fee, we will have it cleaned by people we trust.  Not all dry cleaners are the same.  Similarly, if you discover a stain, contact us and do not attempt to use proprietary stain removal products without knowing whether they will damage the cloth.

#7: Washing

Tailored suits should never be washed in a washing machine. Doing this will ruin a suit’s structure irrevocably, unless your suit has been specifically designed to be washable.

Cotton shirts are to be washed at low temperatures, since modern detergents work well even at 30 degC. Also programme the machine for low spin speed. Never tumble dry.

We wish you many happy years of wearing your new garment and rest assured it will remain looking great if looked after with our advice above.
